viewing area. it does include the metro area in parts of virginia and maryland. so let's go to the doppler 7 radar. the temperatures shown in yellow. notice the yellow and the red on the radar? the very heavy rainfall clipping fairfax county. it is going to cross over the potomac and into frederick county and then hagerstown as well momentarily this morning. otherwise, a few spotty, light showers going on the high temperature about 83, becoming less humid. we'll dry out and have a fair amount of sunshine. more rainfall later this week. >> while you were sleeping there was a crash on the interloop ramp to eisenhower avenue. they are out there now repairing the guardrail so you'll mind exit ramp closed for the next 10-15 minutes. you'll find everything in your favor on the greenway, route 29 and even 270. not bad. more to come on the traffic side. we'll have the latest information from metro rail. last we heard, first trains in normal service. >> our top story now, a 2-year-old boy fighting for his life after accidentally shooting himself in the chest. and now two teenagers are facing charge

, if not dangerous out there. so heads up for 270. let's go to northern virginia, interstate 66, inbound, i'll step out of the way. the picture tells the story, because it is just coming down in buckets out there right now. now we do have word of an accident in maryland. 95 southbound near ruth 212, calvert and beltsville exit. rescue crews should be on the scene. back to virginia, 95 northbound between triangle andunn fries, tractor trailer accident. i-70 remains blocked before you get to baltimore, eastbound because of an accident involving a truck. hopefully that will be reopened according to police maybe in the next hour. but again, that's the story of the morning. joe? >> jerry, thank you very much. a lot of folks in the district are prepared for severe weather. the d.c. department of public works handed out some sandbags yesterday in southeast washington. this move is to help keep homes and businesses from flooding in low-lying areas. d.c. officials remind people to stay away from fallen wires, call 311 forany downed trees or rge limbs causing damage or blocking roadways and sidewalks. >>> as

student from virginia is in court today. investigators say he opened fire during an off campus party after someone refused to let him in. jessica moore from prince georges county, virginia was killed. police are looking for a second man, they say, gave welsh the gun gun. >>> right now prince georges county community college is shut down because of a natural gas leak. crews are working at campus way south and route 202. officials say a four-inch gas line ruptured this morning. fire crews shut down roads leading to the scene as a precaution. right now gas crews are working to repair the line. >>> usually hot arid weather is great for vineyards but not this time around. grapes used to make california wine are in serious jeopardy. the landing gear malfunctions on a crowded commuter flight and it is ear ely similar to another flight. >>> another commuter justice was forced to make an emergency landing in milwaukee last night. it's a smaller version of the same plane that had a near crash landing at jfk airport in new york on saturday. as joel brown reports, investigators think the landing gear

airports. have not heard of any other airlines. out on the rails, virginia railway express predicting delays up to an hour and a half. mark has delays of up to a half hour as well and amtrak had some delays all day long. be sure to check the status of any train you need to catch or the ones you're waiting for before you head out the door. we have links to amtrak, and mark at wusa9.com. all you have to do is click on traffic. >>> one of the westbound lanes of the columbia pike in arlington is blocked off by those orange construction barrels tonight. that's because the heavy rains today have created a sink hole and it is right near south wakefield. crews were able to patch that hole earlier this afternoon. no word tonight on when more permanent repairs can be made. >> and the high waters closed part of the dulles toll road. patranya, that sounds terrible. >> that does sound terrible. it's bad news from the dulles toll road. still closed between franklin street and the dc line. be aware of that. don't cross the rising water. you saw what happened to that guy. other problems on the roads

is okay from t 5 past 270. live conditions here at university. virginia 66 heading eastbound tracking the trip, as well. everything is good from centreville past 50 to the capital beltway. as we take you over to 395 northbound, lanes are wide open. no issues to report making your way from t 5 past shirlington and beyond. back to you. >>> campaign 2010 in the district has led to a new mayor. voters ousted mayor fenty in the democratic primary in favor of city council chairman vincent gray. with 90% of precincts reporting gray leads with 53% of the vote to fenty's 48%. -- 46%. chris fin fisher is live with more. >> this race wasn't called until 2:00 this morning. and gray didn't even give his tip stance speech until a half hour later. so this is a very, very late night for even involved from all the campaign workers here at the headquarters to the campaign itself. vince gray took the stage at 2:30 this morning. this victory virtually assures that gray will be the city's next mayor. after all he has no republican challengers and fenty previously said he will not be a write in candidate.

making your way in towards virginia and we're going to end with inbound new york avenue nice and quiet commute this morning towards the 3rd street tunnel. >>> investigators are searching for answers after a woman is found dead on her doorstep. as brittany morehouse reports, neighbors say the woman was in the midst of a new beginning in her life. >> sad because i knew her. she lived hee for a long time. >> reporter: no name, no picture but people who knew are still grieving the woman found outside of her apartment on greenbelt road are remembering her with fondness she was specially sweet to young people. >> especially when you have kids. >> this is some scary things. >> reporter: many people were frightened when they saw the woman hanging outside of the front door of the apartment complex. they say she was lying down in the ground in a pool of blood. >> it looked like she probably fainted and one hand was out halfway where the doors are. >> reporter: police will say very little with the woman, except that she was in her 40s and suffered some blunt trauma but the friends she made descri

three days. heads-up in northern virginia. a new traffic pattern in place a a busy intersection in ty >>> crime alert. eight people have been shot over the weekend in ward 4 in the district. this violence began just after midnight on friday with one person shot in the 600 block of longfellow streetnorthwest. fewer than five hours later, a woman was caught in gunfi near 9th and deindicator street. four people shot on satuay night in the 700 block of sheprd. that's about a block away from a police substation. two people were shot in the 100 block of kennedy street northwest before sunrise. we have checked with d.c. police and they say they do not know of any arrest in y shootings. >>> police on the hunt for a person who murdered a 21-year-old woman in the district. this happened around 3:30 yesterday morning along bruce place. ashley mccray is the young woman in the far right in this picture. it was takent the georgetown store worked. th found the 21-year-old inside a car early saturday morning where she had been shot. she was rushed to the hospital where shwas pronounced dead. >> every

and virginia, south of fredericksburg. interstate 95 at route 1, spotsylvania has two overturned vehicles and a horse trailer that overturned in the medium. both directions of interstate 95 south of fredericksburg are affected. we had a crash in the inner loop near braddock roper that will hang you up out of springfield, virginia. there is an accident in college park with a motorcycle down on the inner loop on route one on your way into greenbelt. blue and orange lines delayed from metro because of a sixth customer who has been taken care of. >>> another beautiful day in washington. here is a look at the sun rise in frederick. there is a few-clouds and 55 degrees in frederick. our forecast for today calls for a lot of sunshine and a cold front will move through and it will become breezy at 10-20 miles per hour. 82 will be a high temperature today and sunny and near 80 tomorrow and chance of showers thursday into friday and 70's for saturday. >>> today is primary day in maryland and d.c. and the polls are now open. the contentious matters raised in d.c. between mayor adrian fenty and vince
